From 1 June 2025, insurance coverage against natural disasters becomes mandatory for vehicles and businesses, including protection against wildfires, floods and earthquakes.
Mandatory insurance coverage for all vehicles against fire and flood damage.
Coverage is based on the vehicle’s current market value.
The requirement also applies to vehicles placed under administrative immobilisation.
Only government-owned vehicles are exempt, with the exception of local authorities.
Uninsured vehicles are excluded from state compensation and financial assistance schemes.
Businesses with annual turnover exceeding €500,000 are required to maintain insurance coverage.
Coverage must include protection against fire, flood and earthquake.
Insurance must cover at least 70% of the value of the company’s assets.
This includes buildings, equipment, inventory, raw materials and business vehicles.
A fine of €10,000 applies for non-compliance, doubling if the violation continues.
